Physical Education at St Philip's Catholic Primary School

At St Philip's, we are committed to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for all our students. Our Physical Education (PE) program is designed to develop physical skills, build encourage teamwork in a fun and inclusive environment.

 

Our PE Vision

We believe that every child should enjoy and benefit from participating in physical activities. Our goal is to instill a lifelong love for movement, sport, and fitness while emphasising the importance of well-being and personal growth.

 

PE Curriculum

Our PE curriculum is structured to suit children of all abilities and focuses on a variety of activities, including:

  • Fundamental Skills: Balance, coordination, and motor skills for younger students.
  • Team Sports: Football, basketball, cricket, netball, and more to foster teamwork and strategy.
  • Individual Activities: Gymnastics, athletics, and dance to build individual confidence.
  • Health and Fitness: Lessons on staying active, understanding the benefits of exercise, and making healthy choices.

We aim to meet the national curriculum standards for PE while encouraging enjoyment and participation at all levels.

PE Timetable

Students participate in 2 PE sessions per week, each lasting 1 hour. These sessions include indoor and outdoor activities, depending on the weather. We also have a specialist PE coach that teaches and supports the PE curriculum being implemented across the school. 

PE Kit Requirements

To ensure safety and comfort, we ask all students to wear the following for PE lessons:

  • A St Philip's P.E top or plain white  T-shirt with the school shorts or tracksuit bottoms.

  • Properly fitted trainers or plimsolls.
  • A water bottle to stay hydrated.

Please ensure all items are clearly labeled with your child’s name.

Extracurricular Sports

We offer a range of extracurricular sports clubs and opportunities to participate in inter-school competitions. These activities are a great way for students to further develop their skills and make new friends. Please see the 'After School Clubs' page under the 'Our School' tab for more information and how to book.

Supporting Your Child in PE

Parents and carers play a vital role in fostering a love for physical activity. You can support your child by:

  • Encouraging active play and outdoor activities at home.
  • Attending school sports events and cheering them on.
  • Providing nutritious meals to fuel their energy.
